What is "Faux"? The word faux is French for fake. Two of the most common examples of this are "Faux Bois" meaning fake wood or wood graining and "Faux Marbre" meaning fake marble -painted or imitating marble. Not all decorative finishes are imitating something real, some are purely artistic design; hence the distinction between the terms faux finishes and decorative painting.
